Kosovo Police, in cooperation with the Basic Prosecutor’s Office – Gjilan, undertook investigative/operational actions for several months, where as a result evidence was obtained that two persons suspected of having committed the criminal offenses of ‘bribery’ and ‘misuse of position or official authority’, illegally registered one of the suspects as a citizen of the Republic of Kosovo.

After intensive investigative work by the unit of the Directorate for the Investigation of Economic Crimes and Corruption (DIECC) – Gjilan, it was discovered that the male suspect with the initials: A. R., born in 1978, a citizen of North Macedonia, in exchange for his registration as a citizen of the Republic of Kosovo in the Municipality of Vitia, paid the amount of 10,000.00 (ten thousand euros) through another suspect who is wanted by the police, in order to register him in the electronic civil status system, this way providing with personal documents such as: certificate, extract of birth and identity card by the Kosovar male suspect with the initials M. D. year of birth 1962.

Regarding the case, the identified suspects were interviewed, where the case of ‘bribery’ was initiated against the first suspect, and his identity card of the Republic of Kosovo was seized and his registration was also cancelled by the Directorate of Administration/Sector of the Civil Status, Viti.

Against the second suspect, who performed the illegal registration service of the first suspect, the case of ‘misuse of official position or authority’ was initiated and after the decision of the competent prosecutor, both were detained for 48 hours.
