Kosovo Police, based on its legal authorizations through strategic development plans and operational plans, has continuously undertaken actions to prevent various criminal activities, including concrete measures to raise awareness and prevent cases of domestic violence.
The cases of domestic violence have been and continue to remain concerning, despite the fact that such cases in the last year have decreased from 2,757 cases to 2,460 cases, or a decrease of 10.77% compared to the previous year, which in this beginning of the year continue to remain even more concerning.
Whenever it is discussed and reported about domestic violence, many challenges are brought to mind, which many families face today, not only in Kosovo, but everywhere in the world, as domestic violence destroys people’s lives, as well as the last two cases, that of serious murder in Ferizaj on 12.04.2024 and the case that happened today 16.04.2024 in Peja. In both cases, Kosovo Police has taken concrete actions by arresting the suspected persons and sent them to the competent bodies of justice.
The legal actions that fall under the competence of Kosovo Police have been undertaken every time, including cooperation and coordination with relevant institutions such as social work centers, victims’ defenders and justice bodies. In all cases, the suspects were arrested and the cases were handled according to the instructions of the justice bodies, as happened with the arrest of two suspects for having committed the murders in Ferizaj and Peja.
Protection from violence is a basic human right, therefore Kosovo Police has continuously made and makes efforts to create a calm and safe environment for everyone. A very important factor in the prevention of domestic violence is the community, including individuals, various organizations and institutions and the legal system must be united in efforts to ensure the end of any domestic or gender-based violence, including violence and abuse against women and children.
Use of violence is not a way to solve problems, the death of a person in any circumstances is a tragedy for the family and the community, therefore Kosovo Police continues to call on all people to cooperate with Kosovo Police, to report cases without delay, as this is the right way to solve and prevent cases as well as to bring the suspects before the justice bodies, to receive the deserved punishment from the competent institutions.
