Prishtina, 19th of August 2021

Today, 19.08.2021 around 05:15 in the village of Shupkovc-Mitrovica, during the implementation of the vehicle checkpoint by police officers of the Regional Traffic Unit of Mitrovica South, a bus with local license plates and driven by E.H., Kosovar male, was stopped.

During the bus check, it was noticed that 61 (sixty one) foreign nationals (among them 2 minors), originating from Syria, Iran and Iraq, were on the bus. Regarding this case, police officers from the Investigation Sector within the Border Police Department in Prishtina were notified and handled this case.

According to the statement of the above-mentioned suspect, he took these foreign citizens to Prizren and intended to take them to the bus station in Mitrovica. The on duty prosecutor the Basic Prosecution in Mitrovica was notified about this case, by his order the above-mentioned suspect was arrested and the case of ‘smuggling with immigrants’ was initiated against him. While foreign nationals were taken by the Migration Unit.

After interviewing the suspect in the presence of his defense lawyer, he was detained by the order of the state prosecutor Basic Prosecution in Mitrovica and taken to detention for 48 hours
