On August 1, 2023, in an official conference, the General Director of Kosovo Police, Colonel Gazmend Hoxha and the ambassador of the United States of America in Prishtina, Mr. Jeffrey Hovenier signed the handover of the donation of body worn cameras for police officers. This joint project/donation is between the INL-DOS and ICITAP-DOJ, within the Embassy of the United States of America in Prishtina.
Kosovo Police (KP) with the support of the United States of America started this pilot project many years ago, where initially in cooperation and coordination with the relevant institutions of the RKS, the necessary documentation and Standards Operating Procedures were prepared.
After drafting and regulating the police procedures, as the public was informed too, on July 7, 2023, the test phase of the use of body worn cameras with the Highway Control Units of the KP began, which then continues with other police units.
Director Hoxha spoke about the role and purpose of the project, who amongst others said that: Kosovo Police, through the innovative approach of investments in information technology, has achieved progress in digital transformation and the realization of this project also aims the increase of responsibility, transparency, accountability, the trust of citizens towards the police, as well as the argumentation of police activities while carrying out official duties in the field.
While the ambassador Mr. Hovenier stated, Today’s ceremony marks the U.S. Government’s donation of body worn cameras to the Kosovo Police. These body worn cameras are a vital new resource for law enforcement in Kosovo that will enhance public trust and confidence in policing and significantly improve accountability.
Kosovo Police expresses its gratitude to the United States of America, for its ongoing support to KP, which continues to remain committed to fulfilling its vision and mission in the service of the country and all the citizens regardless.
