Kosovo Police had on official meeting related to the planning and engagement of police officers in implementation of the operational plan for “Local Elections – 2021”. In the meeting led by the General Director of Kosovo Police, Mr. Samedin Mehmeti, participated the senior management of the KP, directors of departments, directors of divisions and regional directorates, who were informed about the planning, evaluation and police engagements in providing security and the good progress of the electoral process.

Director Mehmeti, during this meeting emphasized that this is a very important process for the country, therefore through the implementation of the operational plan and coordination of the central and local level, a safe and peaceful environment should be created for all citizens of the Republic of Kosovo in order to enable the exercise of the right to vote as one of the rights guaranteed by the constitution.

The purpose of this operational order for the process of these election is to create a safe and secure climate for all citizens of the Republic of Kosovo, implementation of four operational phases, as it has started from the pre-election or preparatory evaluation period, then the engagement to provide safety during the pre-election campaign, the engagement and guarantee of security in the key phase of election day as day (Z), as well as the period after the election which foresees the transport under KP escort and security of sensitive material until the end of the process.

Kosovo Police will engage a sufficient number of police officers of different profiles, from different units within the Police, and has taken additional measures by appointing police coordinators with the CEC and other institutions engaged in this process.

All necessary measures are foreseen regarding the initiation and prosecution of any criminal offense against the right to vote and the undertaking of all procedural/criminal measures against anyone violating the laws of the country that regulate/sanction illegal actions against free and democratic elections, all that in close coordination and cooperation with the State Prosecutor’s Office according to action plans and preliminary agreements based on law.

The Kosovo Police remains committed on the implementation of its legal duties and responsibilities in a professional, transparent and impartial manner towards the citizens and the country, therefore we encourage all citizens to cooperate with Kosovo Police and at the same time report on any illegal cases that relate to security and the electoral process or beyond but always by respecting the measures of prevention and combating ‘COVID-19’ pandemic.
