As we have announced before end-year holiday, Kosovo Police has prepared the operational plan in time, in order to provide safety in the whole territory of the Republic of Kosovo. To achieve this, Kosovo Police has engaged a great number of police officers.

The main purpose of this planning and commitment was the maintenance of the order and public peace in the country, prevention and combating of negative phenomenon, as well as other criminal acts.

Part of the plan has also been the increase of police presence in traffic road and police vigilance in open environments, in squares of different cities where festive organizations were held, in order to prevent any possible accident of any incident.

During the night of New Year (2015/2016), the situation in the whole territory of the Republic of Kosovo was assessed to be quiet and stable, except some small incidents reported in the Kosovo Police, but in general this year is considered much quiet than previous years.

As a result of the Police work and as a result of the cooperation and awareness of citizens, during the celebration of this year, it is assessed that there were used less fireworks, pyrotechnic means and fire weapons, which have impacted in creation of a higher safety compared with the previous years.

The reported incidents were mainly of light bodily injuries as a consequence of non-adequate use of pyrotechnic means, fire incidents, causing general risk etc, but fortunately in this year no case of loss of life was reported during the celebration of the end-year holiday.

Reported cases:

    Illegal possession of weapons ( 2) two cases;
In these two cases were arrested two persons, who then were released in regular procedure and there were seized (2) weapons and ammunition.

    Fire accident/accidental fire were reported (7) seven cases;
It is suspected that as a consequence of non-adequate use of pyrotechnic means, there were evidenced seven cases of causing fire incidents-accidental fire, but which has gone without consequences on people and mainly with small material damages.

    Property damage (3) three cases;
It is suspected that three vehicles have undergone superficial damages by the suspected means.

    Causing general risk and bodily injuries (6) six cases;
As a consequence of non-adequate use of pyrotechnic means, but also from the air bullets (blind bullets), there were evidenced (6) six cases, where (2) two persons have suffered injuries by the air bullets, and luckily they are out of risk for life.

Based on the information we possess, there are also other cases of superficial injuries suffered by the pyrotechnic means, but were not reported in Kosovo Police, but only have required medical treatment in the medical family centers and QKUK.

Summary:

In general, in Kosovo Police during the night of New Year were reported (2) cases of illegal possession of weapons, (7) cases of fire incident, (3) cases of property damages and (6) cases of causing general risk and bodily injuries.

Compared with the previous year (2014/2015) where there are reported over 10 cases of light/serious bodily injuries and other cases, fortunately this year no case of bodily injuries or loss of life was reported and starting from this aspect, this year is considered much quiet compared with the previous year, with less serious incidents and use of pyrotechnic means and fire weapons.

It is worth mentioning that these are cases where KP has information, but there may be other cases of any possible incident, where the person/s to have asked for medical help in any medical center even though we have been in contact with the same.
