First case
On 29.9.2014, at about 09:20, in the exit line of the border crossing point Dheu i Bardhë, that connects the Republic of Kosovo and Serbia, border police units have conducted an tactical operation with the aim of preventing illegal migration, which operation has resulted on arresting of a suspect (N. H. Egyptian, 1991) for ‘smuggling with migrants’.The suspect already arrested was stopped in the exit line, driving a van Mercedes with –KS- plates, on which there were nine (9) other persons, all of them from Kosovo Egyptian community, where four (4) of them were adults and five (5) children, who are suspected to be victims of smuggling. As a continuation of the police work regarding the case, the adult victims were interviewed, who claim that the ultimate goal of their trip was to go to EU Countries. According to the deal with suspect, the victims are suspected to have paid the amount of five hundred (500) euro, to take them to the Serbian city of Nis, and then from there toward the Hungary by their own organizing. After interviewing victims, they were refused to exit, because they did not fulfill the conditions to travel to EU countries, as they had planned.
In consultation with the prosecutor on duty of serious crimes in Gjilan, the suspect was stopped to proceed with other legal procedures, while his vehicle is temporarily seized.Second case
Also today on 29.9.2014, Investigation Unit of Border Police Department, with the authorization of competent prosecutor by the Basic Prosecution in Prishtina – Serious Crime Department, have arrested the suspect B. L, who is suspected to have smuggled Kosovo citizens for material benefits, mainly of the Egyptian, Roman and Ashkali communities toward the EU countries.
Migration of the members of: Roman, Egyptian and Ashkali minorities, recently was increased significantly. For this reason, Border Police was mobilized and has raised the vigilance for prevention and combat of this phenomenon, as well as detection and arresting of the potential suspects for smuggling.
