After receiving the information that a confidential information have been published on an online news portal, the police undertook legal actions to inform the competent Prosecution, in accordance to its powers.

After this action, based on the Prosecution order, other actions have been taken in total accordance with the legislation in power and rights and guaranties deriving from.

The police respectively police officers did not interrogate and did not put under investigation any citizen exercising the profession of journalist. Based on the order from the Prosecution only the person or officers possessing this kind of confidential information have been interrogated.

The representative of the news portal publishing this information have been invited only for information based on the prosecution instructions.

It is worth mentioning that Kosovo Police undertook all the actions in accordance with the legal authorizations and the powers deriving from the law it is governed. These powers are very clear to the police, as well as the rights and guaranties deriving from the law on the protection of journalist sources.

It is also important to protect the public interest, a damaged party in this case as a result of the leak of the confidential information, therefore Police actions on informing the Prosecution are about the persons responsible for the leak of confidential information, not the ones who published them.
