Kosovo Police today received five dogs for K9 Unit from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP)

Prishtina, 9th of March 2021

Today in a ceremony organized at the facility of the General directorate of Kosovo Police, present, general director of Kosovo Police Mr. Samedin Mehmeti with his associates as well as Mrs. Maria Suokko, permanent representative of UNDP, Kosovo Police received a donation of five (5) dogs for ‘K9’ unit.

The handover of this donation was signed by the general director of Kosovo Police Mr. Samedin Mehmeti and the permanent representative of UNDP for Kosovo Mrs. Maria Suokko.

For participants, a brief presentation of dogs in action was performed by the members of “K9” unit.

This donation according to Mr. Mehmeti proves the strong cooperation of Kosovo Police with UNDP in: “the mission and daily engagement of Kosovo Police is the one that in close cooperation with citizens – advance the level of security in Kosovo and at the same time improve the quality of life for the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo.

Kosovo Police is a professional organization of law enforcement and always remains committed in maintaining the public peace and order. The Police plays key role in preventing and combating negative phenomena and various types of crime including trafficking on illegal weapons as well as on controlling small and light weapons”.

The today’s donation intends to support Kosovo Police in further increasing police productivity in prevention of smuggling, detection and confiscation of illegal weapons, ammunitions and explosives.

The permanent representative of UNDP in Kosovo, Mrs. Maria Suokko said that “In the exceptional circumstances caused by the pandemic, the challenge is to continue providing services to all people – in the most efficient way possible. In the complex global environment – filled with many uncertainties – safety and security institutions must be one step ahead. And this is what the Kosovo Police is doing – by expanding its capacities in fighting illicit arms trafficking and advancing the control of small arms and light weapons, ammunition and explosives.  Today, we are donating five K9 dogs for Kosovo Police K9 unit. The dogs will be specifically trained in sniffing and detecting various narcotics and explosives that could be otherwise smuggled through the border crossing points or the green border lines.””

General director of KP, Mr. Mehmeti, thanked the permanent representative of UNDP for Kosovo, Mrs. Maria Suokko, for the cooperation and continuous support given to Kosovo Police.
